Every year each Chapter across Canada holds a contest in search of their local Rising Star to present at the CAPS National Convention Rising Star Showcase. This is a great opportunity to display your outstanding speaking skills at the local and potentially national level. Chosen speakers will represent their Chapter by delivering a 5 – minute presentation, demonstrating their expertise to a professional speaking panel comprised of experts at the National Convention. Our Judges will provide top quality feedback and you will have had the honour of speaking at convention!
Meet the Rising Stars Judges…
Shelle Rose Charvet, CSP has been persuading and influencing audiences and organizations worldwide, for over 30 years. (She refuses to be exact on this number and says it is “none of your business”.) She is also a certified trainer of Neuro-linguistic Programming, an expert in below-conscious Motivation Triggers™, and has certified over 500 trainers in the Language & Behaviour Profile methodology. Her first book Words that Change Minds has been translated into 15 languages, 2 of which are French.
She founded a startup company that produced a new software called Libretta®, which has been awarded 2 US patents. This software identifies what motivates people when they write, and shows you which words to use or not use. Jane Atkinson said of Shelle: “She’s Einstein meets Lucille Ball.” Unfortunately, she has Lucille Ball’s grasp of nuclear physics and Einstein’s sense of comic timing. She has Einstein’s lovely locks and Lucille Ball’s aversion to “splaining”. I could go on but, Shelle does say that, “CAPS/GSF events and members have managed to pry open my mind to help me deepen my expertise, become more human and even have put up with me doing experiments that would never be allowed under normal circumstances. Where else could you dress in your pajamas, do a workshop as the fairy god-mother, show naked pictures of yourself in bed, imitate Queen Elizabeth, and do a rehearsal of your keynote on stage?” Want to know more about these…you’ll need to ask Shelle at convention! www.successtrategies.com

Shirley Taylor has established herself as a leading authority on business writing and communication skills. The seventh edition of her international bestselling book Model Business Letters, Emails and Other Business Documents has sold over half a million copies worldwide and has been translated into 14 languages. Building on over 30 years of speaking and training, she has created an online virtual training program ‘Business Writing That Works’ at www.ShirleyTaylorVT.com. Originally from the UK, Shirley is Founder and CEO of STTS Training Pte Ltd in Singapore, and she enjoys travelling to conduct speaking and training assignments. She is passionate about helping people to learn in practical, interactive and fun environments. Shirley has been a member of Asia Professional Speakers Singapore (APSS) since 2005. She was President 2011-12, was convention chair for two years, and won the Spirit of Service Award three consecutive years. Shirley is now President of the Global Speakers Federation 2017-18. Shirley says: “When I joined APSS, I found a new local family, a support network, some great friends. I also discovered a huge global community in the Global Speakers Federation. I’ve attended many NSA annual conventions, as well as some in other countries, and I’ve gained so much from the onstage content as well as in friendships made. I’ve also learned about the magic that happens when members work together “to create a bigger pie”. Through collaboration and expertise sharing, we can expand our combined influence to help each other, and also to shape minds and hearts, and make our world a better place.”
