Registered Attendees – Need To Knows

You’ve made the investment in attending the 2018 CAPS Convention in Vancouver, BC, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to maximize it! Now that you’ve registered, it is time to double check that everything is in place. Please go through this entire checklist… there’s a lot of important updates and information you’ll need to know!

 

REGISTRATION AND INFORMATION DESK HOURS

The Registration and Information Desk will be located on Saturday in the hotel foyer, and then will be located in the Ballroom Foyer– both located on the main level of the Westin Bayshore Hotel (1601 Bayshore Drive, Vancouver, BC).

Saturday,  Dec. 8th          12:00 noon – 7:00 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 9th              8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Monday, Dec. 10th           7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 11th          7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Your full Convention registration fee includes admission to all listed sessions (unless otherwise noted) any program materials, breakfasts, lunches, networking breaks, a dinner/dance ticket to the Presidents’ Ball and Awards Ceremony. 

 

SO WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER IN OTTAWA

It will be a little bit rainy as we head into Vancouver….with an average of 6 Celsius (that’s a balmy 42.8 F for our south of the border friends).  Vancouver is a great walking city, rain or sunshine.   Come prepared – the hotel does offer umbrellas.  Let’s hope all other weather remains good and that no one encounters any airport/weather delays!  

 

GETTING TO THE WESTIN BAYSHORE HOTEL

There are no airport shuttles to the hotel.   And….no Uber or Lyft in Vancouver.   Taxi flat fare to the Westin is $35.00. There is on-site parking at the Westin for $40.00 per day or $45.00 valet.

DIETARY RESTRICTIONS

If you have not already done so, and you have any dietary restrictions, please notify the CAPS office (shari@canadianspeakers.org) immediately.  Special meal requests cannot be accommodated unless pre-arranged.

 

CONVENTION PHOTOGRAPHER

Need updated photos – Instant Memories (our 2016 Edmonton photographer) will be on site with a full studio set up.

The CAPS special convention rate is a very reasonable $99.99+ GST, without hair and makeup.

WHICH PRE-CONVENTION WORKSHOP WILL YOU BE ATTENDING?

Pick and plan your pre-convention workshop selection now.    
For those earning $350,000 per year or more join Kristin Arnold, CSP and Joe Sherren, CSP, HoF, Global Speaking Fellow for the High Income Speaker Group on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 8th – only $99 for this afternoon session including lunch.
On Sunday, Dec 9th – we have a full day, not to be missed, Business Building Master Class workshop planned for you featuring Phil Jones and Gina Schreck.  This session is only $150 including lunch.   All Pre-Convention Workshop attendees will receive a special invitation to Comedy Night and Volunteer Recognition Evening – Sat. Dec. 8th.   Watch for your invite later this month.

CONVENTION BOOKSTORE

A convention favourite! Do you have a product that you would like to showcase to fellow speakers at this year’s CAPS Convention? We are once again pleased to offer you the opportunity to display and market your best products at the Convention Bookstore. All convention registrants (both speakers and general attendees) are invited to register for bookstore space. We are providing staff to manage the sale of your items, leaving you time to network. Register your books/products online.

 

CONVENTION AUDIO RECORDINGS

 Did you Know….?   There will be 24 different breakout sessions at this year’s CAPS Convention in Vancouver?   Each attendee can choose 8 to actually attend.   But guess what? All the breakout sessions will be recorded (audio only) and as a registered attendee, YOU can pre-order all 24 for only $99! You must be registered and order by December 1.   After December 1st and onsite at the convention, the cost will be $129.

FOUNDATION EVENT

The CAPS Foundation is back this year – Casino Royale is the theme – a fun evening guaranteed!

Doors open Monday, December 10th at 6:30 p.m. with dinner followed by a night of fun – and fun-raising!

Back by popular demand is Meet the Experts – featuring insights from Hall of Fame/CPAE speakers, CAPS Past Presidents and Global Speakers Federation speakers and leaders. Take part in 3 rounds of 20 minutes each discussion in small table formats. Learn from our industries best of the best. Participate in the sharing of knowledge, wisdom and experience. PRESIDENT’S BALL SEATING

Advanced table reservations are now open! 

If you would like to pre-reserve a table at our Tuesday evening Presidents’ Ball and Awards Gala, please forward up to 10 names to Greg Mulroney via email at info@canadianspeakers.org no later than Friday, November 30th – otherwise, we will assign you to a table. If you are not staying for the President’s Ball,  please let Greg know via email at info@canadianspeakers.org. Dress code for the evening is: Formal and Fun.
